Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 863 -- VOLUNTEER FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATIONS

SPONSOR:  Engler (Robinson)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 15 to 0.

This bill expands the definition of "volunteer fire protection
association" to include municipal fire departments staffed by
volunteers.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill clarifies, for
liability insurance purposes, that a municipal fire department
may be included within the definition of a "volunteer fire
protection association."

Testifying for the bill was Senator Engler.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
